Shirat HaYam was formally named in 2005, although the guiding principle is “formally informal.” A group of diverse Jews and friends living on Bowen Island. B.C. gather ad hoc for Kabbalat Shabbats-on the beach in the summers- Hanukah parties, Purim parties, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, even a wedding, and a community Passover Seder that can attract upwards of 40 people. We have no one way of doing things, and we encourage each other in our exploration of what it means to be Jewish.
